About this Service

Getting a prescription in Melbourne

At our Brunswick GP clinic, our caring doctors are here to help you manage both ongoing health conditions and short-term illnesses. To obtain a prescription in Melbourne, simply schedule an appointment with one of our experienced general practitioners (GPs).

During your appointment, your GP will assess your health condition and determine whether a prescription is necessary. If medication is required, your healthcare provider will write a prescription and provide you with the appropriate dosage instructions.

Once you have a prescription, you can take it to any pharmacy in Melbourne to have it filled. Remember to follow the dosage instructions provided by your GP and pharmacist, and complete the full course of medication as prescribed, even if you start feeling better.

Repeat Prescriptions

Managing repeat prescriptions and tests is crucial for maintaining your health. If you have an ongoing health condition and have been prescribed medication, it's essential to ensure you have an adequate supply of your prescribed medication.

We recommend scheduling an appointment with our GP at least 1-2 weeks before your medication runs out to ensure you have enough time to fill your prescriptions.

Your health and wellbeing is important to us, that's why we require patients to schedule an appointment with their GP for a repeat prescription. Our GP will assess your health condition and determine if any adjustments need to be made to your medication and ensure that the medication is still effective and safe for you.

Pathology Tests

Getting pathology tests done in Melbourne is a straightforward process that can be completed in just a few simple steps. Whether you need a pathology test for a routine health check or to diagnose a specific condition, the following steps will help guide you through the process:

1. Consult your doctor: The first step in getting a pathology test in Melbourne is to consult with a GP doctor. Your doctor will assess your health condition and determine whether any pathology tests are necessary.

2. Choose a pathology lab and perform the test: Once your doctor has recommended a pathology test, you can choose a pathology lab to get the test done. Sometimes our doctor may ask you to leave the sample with us, in which case the test sample will be sent to Dorevitch Pathology. Most pathology tests, such as blood and urine tests, do not require an appointment. However, we do recommend checking with the pathology provider before attending the lab.

3. Receive your results: Once your test results are ready, they will be sent to our doctor. Our friendly receptionist will get in touch with you on behalf of our doctors within 1-2 weeks and inform you of any necessary follow-up actions, and whether a follow-up appointment is required. In most cases, if the results are all clear, a follow-up appointment won't be necessary. However, if there are any concerns or abnormal results, a follow-up appointment will be required to discuss the results and any necessary treatment or management options.

Potential Fees for Pathology Tests

Please note that some pathology tests may incur fees and our clinic has no control over the fees charged by other organisations. We recommend that you check with your chosen pathology provider before accessing their services. They will be able to advise you on whether the fees may be covered by Medicare or private health insurance and if any rebates are available. It's important to be aware of any potential costs before undergoing any tests, to avoid unexpected bills.
